We recently sat down with Alice Browning — mother, yoga teacher, writer, and founder of The Fold Online to talk about all things menstrual health and wellness. With a vision rooted in nourishment, surrender, and self-discovery, Alice has created an online space where women feel seen, supported, and gently empowered through each season of their lives.
Hi Alice! First things first — how would you describe what you do, and what’s the story behind The Fold?
I'm a mother, yoga teacher, life admin avoider and the founder of The Fold Online — a platform shaping the future of women’s wellness. After over a decade of teaching and holding space for students, I’ve realised that sharing slabs of my heart is my happy place. Whether through yoga classes, my writing, or the platform itself, I’m here to be naked, not curated.
The Fold was born from a gap I felt — and still feel — in the way women are supported. I built what I wished existed. For me, for the women I know, and the many I continue to meet. There are so many women’s voices that deserve amplification, so many brilliant female practitioners whose work is transformative, and so many rituals and practices that have the power to return us to our innate wisdom.
And for those who are just beginning to connect with their cycle— where can they start?
Honestly, Really Nice Tea is an epic and simple hack to support the fluctuating hormones throughout a cycle.
If you’re new to cyclical living, my first piece of advice would be to start with our free trial on The Fold. Begin with the “Cyclical Living” masterclass, then move on to the workshop. After that, you can explore our curated series for each phase of your cycle — rich in education, movement, and ritual for every season. Next, explore our teachers and practitioners. Find a woman who resonates — a Nutritionist or Naturopath who supports women’s hormonal health. Learning to move and eat in sync with your cycle can create powerful shifts in how you feel throughout the month.
Are there any specific rituals you do throughout your cycle?
Absolutely. I tailor how I move, eat, socialise, and work depending on where I’m at in my cycle. When I’m bleeding, I retreat. You can most likely find me in bed, blinds drawn, drinking tea, drenched in magnesium oil and watching nothing high-brow, eating digestives like it's an Olympic sport. And avoiding people, that’s my most important ritual for at least the first 2 days of my bleed.
What natural remedies have supported you with period pain or discomfort?
Magnesium oil is a staple — SheSpray is a favourite. Also, period underwear from Flow Intimates makes a huge difference in comfort and ease during my bleed.
How do you personally track your cycle?
I’ve used the MyFlo app previously but over time, after working with women's health practitioners like Sarina Coventry and Elle Brown, it’s become more intuitive. I’ve developed an awareness that allows me to notice and respond to the subtle signals my body sends. It feels like second nature now.
Any final practices or reminders you’d like to leave with our readers?
Support — let it sweeten your life. Whether that’s from people, rest, food, or rituals, let it in. Start shifting how you approach the days leading up to your bleed — slow down. This not only changes your experience of menstruation but deepens your connection with your body’s wisdom. When we listen, we learn. And when we learn, we live more aligned.
